An air valve is a pipeline protection and air management device designed to automatically release trapped air during pipeline filling, admit air during draining or negative pressure conditions, and expel accumulated air during normal operation. Proper air valve operation prevents air locking, vacuum formation, pipeline surges, and structural damage.
Air valves are commonly installed at high points of pipelines, pump discharge lines, and long rising mains in water supply, wastewater, irrigation, and industrial fluid systems.
